How to spend Valentine’s Day in Brisbane with your bestie

Friends rock. They might “borrow” your clothes and send you on crappy blind dates but friends never break your heart. And after all, what would life be without an insult from your mates on the reg? If Valentine’s Day content makes your eyes roll and your Feb 14 plans are assuming couch potato mode with a glass of vino then, stop right there, call your clique, and discuss these cute AF options.

#1 HAVE A POPOLO PICNIC

Normal picnics are already darling, Popolo picnics are that and fabulous. Think of it as a catered picnic with freshly made Italian food. If you are reading along thinking Popolo Italian Kitchen and Bar, Popolo? Then yes. The yummy river-front Italian favourite also does sublime picnic hampers. You’ll sit by the river and gossip your life away over pizza’s, charcuterie boards, and arancini. (Like, who even needs a Valentine when you’ve got arancini right?) Book here.

#2 GO AND SEE BLACK IS THE NEW WHITE

Netflix is good, but live theatre is better! There’s nothing like watching a real-life rom-com unfold in front of your eyes – alongside, hilarious nudity scenes, food-fights and an exquisite cello piece that is all featured in Black is the New White. Opening what will be, a tremendously fabulous 2018 season of Queensland Theatre,  this tale is pitched as the hybrid of Meet the Fockers with Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner? Dress to the nines, get a wine (or two) and sit back and soak up this perfectly pitched comedy at The Playhouse with your best friends for V-day. Tickets here.

#3 HAVE A DIVINE DINNER AT EAGLE STREET PIER

Just because you’re not lurrved-up doesn’t mean a romantic dinner with the clique is off the cards. Adorne your best frock! Sharpen that wing and come armed with your most telling screenshotted convos. Hashing your love woes deserves to be done over a plate of something GOOD. At Eagle Street Pier, good means two-for-one Fratelli Famous pizzas, a decadent design-your-own three courses at George’s Paragon Seafood Restaurant or perhaps a glamorous lunch with a set menu at Sake is in order? Find out more here.

# 4 GET MATCHING YCL JEWELLERY

What an absolutely dashing occasion (and convenient excuse) Valentine’s Day is to get matching gems with/for your lady loves! YCL Jewels are the creation of beautiful Gold Coast jewellery designer, Fabienne. Covet her gorgeously curated grid here for total IG envy.  Romantic, fine and feminine, our favourites from her exquisite collections are the Freyja Earrings and the Crystal Cave Choker.

# TAKE AN ART CLASS AT CORK AND CHROMA

Even if you sport a pre-K abstract level of painting ability, Cork and Chroma is FUN. And with a whole bunch of your mates? THE BEST. Plus, a few sips of wine you’re totally a Montemarte artiste (or at least you’ll think you are). Cork and Chroma have their resident studio in our West-End backyard but are also hosting a pop-up Paint and Sip art class at Westfield Chermside Shopping Centre on V-Day. While you paint and guzzle vino with your best mates, the loathing of V-day will be the least of your worries. You’ll be too busy trying to perfect one of the 147 elements of your 40×50 masterpiece for the mandatory IG upload… Book a Paint Your Mate, Picasso Style sesh on Feb 14, here.

Tell us all the fun things you have planned with your besties this V Day! Write to @brisbanethreads on IG.
