Urban Escape: Limes Hotel

I just spent the last two nights in luxury! After a jam-packed year and with Christmas looming I made a last minute decision to escape my family home for a couple of nights and have myself a merry-little urban escape. And I must say, it was one of the best Christmas presents I have given myself.

I stayed in the swanky boutique hotel Limes Hotel on Constance Street in Fortitude Valley. You may have visited their rooftop bar, renowned for their Sunday session – SUNDAYS @ LIMES. But you may not have experienced any of the 21 rooms designed to reject the look of a traditional hotel, instead featuring a dark colour palette with clean lines and minimalist interiors. It’s the type of room I’d love to sleep in every night, and when the alarm sounded to remind me to check out at 11am on Tuesday… I was gutted.

But enough about leaving… let me tell you about my stay.

I checked in on Sunday afternoon and promptly made use of the shower and the Appelles Apothecary shower goodies, laced with essential oils and vitamin B5. Then of course lounged about in the luxurious hotel robe and decided to head up to the rooftop for one of their cocktails!

The rooftop bar has been newly refurbished complete with plunge pools! My beverage tip – the Jug of Midnight Mule, is fabulous! Vodka and cranberry liqueur, finished with cinnamon and ginger beer; the perfect refreshment in the sunshine!

After a few too many and some delicious tapas I moseyed back down to the room and cuddled up in the soft bed and promptly fell asleep!

Monday morning a short stroll down to Alfred + Constance for a caffeine hit proved more than fruitful as I eyed off their breakfast selection, relaxed in one of the arm chairs and readied for work. Little did I know I would spend most of the day there, enjoying their rustic menu that spans breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and snacks!

So yes, I was back again for lunch and the eye-fillet finished with red wine jus, seeded mustard and the best roast potatoes (yep, better than mum’s!) My dining companion chose the duck, on a bed of watermelon, persian feta and mint – and the report (and let me tell you they are the pickiest dining companion I know) was that it was succulent, flavoursome and fresh, a big win for summer dining!

The afternoon brought ciders and a bowl of crackling out on the deck in the Vanguard Beer Garden – the perfect meeting place for last Christmas wishes with friends.

And of course as they always do, ‘quiet afternoon drinks’ turned into a long evening of laughing and dancing upstairs in the Tiki Bar! A late night snack was waiting for me next door, their sister-venue, Alfredo’s does the best traditional Italian pizza – by the slice of course! Alfredo’s pumps long into the evening with dinner’s patrons losing track of the time, or weary party-goers looking for something scrumptious before they call it a night.

Finally, wandering back home 100 meters to my Limes Hotel bed, quiet and comfort for the night’s rest.

And so we come full circle and my alarm is ringing off for the 11am checkout and I am dreading re-entering the real world again, lucky it’s Christmas!

Whether you are a Brisbanite taking an urban escape or your own, or recommending a unique place to stay for friends and family visiting our lovely city… then Limes Hotel is your bet.
