At Brisbane Threads HQ, this post has been in the works behind the scenes for a long time now. Like, a really long time. I wanted to make it perfect and give you as much information as possible, so I’ve been busy researching, testing, reviewing, styling and photographing for the last couple of weeks to bring you the first of three instalments on natural, eco-friendly and organic beauty products. This week we’re talking about beauty products for your bod, and the following weeks we’ll move on to products for your beautiful face and then hair.
So here we are, thanks for joining me!
I’ve been thinking about organic and eco-friendly beauty products a lot recently as I ‘grow up’ and see changes in my skin. I also really want to look after my body, you know the whole ‘treat it like a temple’ kind of thing. So eco-friendly and organic beauty products have been on my radar for some time now but I’ve strayed from trying anything new and blamed the cliche excuses like ‘it costs too much’ and ‘they’re so hard to find’ whenever I contemplated a switch to products with more natural ingredients.
So I did what any other lifestyle blogger would do and tried a bunch of products and googled (a lot) to bring you this round-up of natural, eco-friendly and organic beauty products. Let’s skip straight in to business shall we – here’s some great natural, eco-friendly and organic beauty products to turn to when it comes to your gorgeous bod.
In The Shower: Want to bring more natural and organic products into the shower with you? It’s not as hard as you think! GAIA Skin Naturals Australia does a great range that includes body washes that are soap and sulphate free and contain organic avocado oil, organic gingko biloba and organic chamomile extracts. They’re available in two scents – pink grapefruit and jasmine or lavendar and frankincense – and are suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive skin as they do not strip your skin of its natural protective oils. I’ve been using the pink grapefruit constantly for about three weeks now and it’s only just run out, which totally surprised me. There’s also the Nourish Naturals soap free wash that is formulated to cleanse and hydrate the skin with naturally derived ingredients. It is 100% natural and is free from sulfates, parabens, synthetics and artificial colours and fragrances, is made in Australia and is not tested on animals. Like the GAIA body wash, the Nourish Naturals is particularly great for sensitive skin. For more on shower products, stay tuned in the following weeks as we cover eco-friendly, narual and organic hair and face products – there’s heaps of options available and I can’t wait to tell you all about them!
For Your Skin: Delicious Skin is an all natural, vegan and cruelty free range of beauty products that are handmade and transparent from the naturally nourishing ingredients to the recyclable glass jars. If you want to show your skin some love and make it smell utterly delicious, than this is the range for you! There’s a detoxifying and soothing exfoliating facial mask, a silky butter cleanser and then my favourite, the soft moisturising cream that smells like a bucket of cookies and cream ice-cream. TO Penetrate and hydrate the skin, a glorious blend of organic shea butter, organic cocoa butter, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, vitamin E and vanilla powder have been combined to help hydrate the skin and make it silky smooth.
For your hands: Feel Good Organics. This stuff is the whole package when it comes to treating your hands, especially in winter when they become dry and cracked a lot quicker than normal. Soak, scrub and moisturise with this handy little pack that is full of zesty mandarin scent. Feel Good Organics is inspired by our natural environment with a philosophy to create, formulate and sell products that are honest, natural and beneficial to those who use them. With a commitment environmental wellbeing, this range certainly ticks all of the boxes. Want to try them for you self? Enter our comp down below and you could win one all for yourself!
I came across two other hand products that, after trialling each for about a week, i have found to work wonders on skin that is dry and rough. One is the Lush Helping Hands pot is think and creamy with a faint smell that your boyfriend probably won’t like, but your hands certainly will. Lush is known for its fight against animal testing, and all products are made with natural ingredients, like this one that is a nurturing blend of almond, cocoa butter and chamomile.
The other hand cream I’ve been carrying around in my handbag for a couple of weeks now is the La Mav Nourish Hand Cream that was kindly sent to us. I’d never heard of La Mav before but can confirm I’m glad it now takes pride of place in my handbag and on my desk at work. Made with sweet salmon oil, jojoba oil, macadamia oil, hyaluronic acid, natural vitamin E, shea butter and aloe vera leaf juice, this sweet little thing isn’t going anywhere.
For Your Feet: While you’re showing the rest of your bod some love, don’t forget your feet! Premium Spa Australia does a great foot treatment that’s super quick, easy and inexpensive. Use the SOS Foot Scrub, made with lavendar, pumice and peppermint to cleanse, exfoliate and remove dry skin and then lather in the SOS Foot Balm to moisturise, soften and soothe. It’s the perfect solution before a night out in your new heels or pre-beach holiday, and it also works a treat at the end of the week when your feet are tired and sore. Premium Spa Australia is an Australian range of naturally based home-spa products that are filled with certified organics and natural extracts and oils. The range is designed to spoil your body and the earth, and all packaging is recyclable. If you’re looking for more of an everday foot treatment, check out the Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme with Vitamin E (my Mum loves it!). P.S. foot treatments are all the more luxurious if you can get someone else to do it for you while you sit back and read your favourite magazine. That is the dream!
For A Faux Glow: There’s a whole lot of natural and organic beauty products that will get you a safe summer glow all year round. Carol’s Beauty has a number of sun tanning enhancers while ivadore has released a new product that is a tanning treatment, luxurious moisturiser and it has natural anti-ageing properties. You should also check out JBronze, Eco Tan and Tan Organic if you are looking for the perfect fake tan for you (and shout out if you know of any others to include too).
The All Rounders: You can’t have a good beauty product haul if you don’t have a couple of all rounders thrown in for good measure. Try the Burt’s Bees Fragrance Free Shea Butter and Vitamin E Body Lotion for general moisturising, or the Coconut Culture Smooth & Soothe Skin Cream that is derived from organic virgin cold-pressed coconut oil. We can’t finish an all rounders wrap-up without mentioning the natural skincare brand Scentrelle and its beautiful Body Dew Moisturising Oil and GAIA’s certified organic Body Moisturisers that are free from propylene glycol, petrochemicals, silicone derivatives, lanolin and mineral oils.
For A Little Luxury: The Premium Spa Australia range has some great products that will bring a little luxury to your everyday beauty routine without a large investment and long hours at the salon. Try the Salt Body Scrub in Lemon Butter for a dreamy, aromatic blend that leaves skin fresh, moisturised and smooth or the Rosehip and Shea Scrub with naturally exfoliating Australian sea salt, rosehip, shea butter and chamomile. Lather your body with them while in the bath and rinse, or sooth into your skin in a circular motion. The SOS Wonder Scrub, Sugar Body Scrub in Frangipani and Coconut and the Ultra Firming Body Balm also add a touch of luxury to the otherwise mundane task of exfoliating and moisturising.
So, now that your spoiled for choice when it comes to beauty products that are good for your body and the environment, there’s no more excuses. Where possible, opt for natural, eco-friendly and organic beauty products and avoid generic, supermarket bought brands that are filled with chemicals and harsh toxins.
Still want more? Next week we’ve got a huge post in the works on natural, eco-friendly and organic beauty products for your sweet cheeks, so be sure to stop by next Tuesday!
