In mid-November (when I noticed Westfield had put up their Christmas decorations) my gift ideas could be mapped out on a scale of non-existent to, well, majorly uninspiring. Fast forward to today and here I am sitting at my desk, flicking two pages of my diary back and forth with zero change in circumstances. No presents and no ideas. So how do you turn this all-too-familiar Christmas narrative into a Christmas miracle you ask?! Five words: the official BT Christmas Wishlist. It’s a collection of our most-loved products this year and it makes a dashing list of Christmas gift ideas if I do say so myself. Consider it our present to you. Merry Christmas!

Here are six impending words you need to get crazy excited about an imminent road closure…The annual Stones Corner Christmas Market. Big, big yes! This year, on the 3rd day of Christmas you can expect just as much charm and entertainment as last year’s dazzling twilight street markets. Foodie friends, you have been notified. Come with your stomachs bare and your pockets fully lined!
I’ve only recently discovered the world of LUSH (I know, how can it be!?) and have yet to become a proud customer – however this special Easter release may (read: will) change that.
Instead of giving family and friends over-packaged, calorific chocolate eggs this year, treat them to a fabulous selection of LUSH’s new bath products made especially for Easter. All LUSH products are not tested on animals and are much kinder to the waistline and environment as the bath bombs, bubble bars and soaps are solid, which means they are preservative and packaging free.
This year’s offerings include brand new inventions as well as returning favourites, and gift packages that will have you dropping hints all over the place.
Here are just some of the new Easter-inspired products we should all be snapping up over the next few weeks…
The Golden Egg Bath Melt Ballistic ($6.50)
This one is a brand new invention that is inspired by chocolate cream eggs and contains an outer bath melt mix of LUSH’s fair-trade, organic, Colombian Peace Village cocoa butter and olive oil from a brand new permaculture project LUSH is working with in Palestine.
The Carrot Soap ($6.95 for 100g)
The new carrot-shaped soap with a bunny hiding in every slice is made with carrot oil to moisturise and cocoa butter to soften. The fragrance is a mix of fruit essential oils such as buchu, lemon and bergamot.
The Brightside Bubble Bar ($10.50)
The Brightside Bubble Bar is back this year for Easter and beyond, joining LUSH’s year-round range with its bright and colourful swirl. Scented with a trio of uplifting and invigorating oils including Sicilian mandarin, tangerine and bergamot oil with a squeeze of lemon. All you have to do is crumble the bar under the running tap and watch as the water turns into a hazy red and orange sunset with frothy white clouds of bubbles.
The Fluffy Egg Bath Ballistic ($5.50)
A sweet scented egg adorned with a candy flower, making you feel like you’re bathing in a bubbling mass of marshmallow, candy floss and jellybean scented water. It’s also completely vegan.
The Fab Wrap Knot Wrap ($5.95)
Inspired by Faberge eggs this fab wrap made from Greenspun is a special addition to the luxury gift-wrapping service at LUSH. Feel good as your goodies are wrapped in a fabric made entirely from recycled plastic bottles that would otherwise end up in landfill.
The Funny Bunny ($29.95)
Tied up inside this organic, cotton Knot-Wrap is a selection of limited edition Easter treats, including Carrot Soap (100g), Grass Shower Gel (100g), Green FUN and Olive Branch Shower Gel (100g). The organic cotton Knot-Wrap is from re-wrap, a women’s co-operative in India, making it the perfect gift for someone special this Easter.

Owner Ruth, who happily shouts ‘hello there’ when you walk in the door, is the mastermind behind the aesthetically pleasing shop that defines the phrase ‘one stop shop.’ Ruth and her team have you covered for every occasion – whether it’s a gift for your girlfriend, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, friend, neighbour, teacher or relative, Vanilla House has something for every occasion. And I really mean everyone!
If you don’t believe me, read on to see Ruth’s top picks when present shopping for a 21st, an engagement party and a relatives 50th birthday… it’ll be your lifeline next time your stuck for a special gift!
Being a boutique lifestyle shop Ruth stocks everything you don’t think you need, but can’t live without once you lay your eyes on it. Think pineapple ice cube trays, colourful Turkish towels, crochet purses and travel inspired coasters. If you’re looking for something particular and she doesn’t have it in store, she will endeavor to track it down and get it for you. Talk about good service right?!
Ruth said the most important thing to her family run business is quality customer service, being genuine to their customers and providing valuable advice and gift recommendations.
Ruth muses that sometimes people wander around the bright store for an hour and even though they don’t buy anything, they feel and remember the magic that is Vanilla House.
A comfortable shopping experience is what Ruth strives to create, and does ever so successfully with beautiful arrangements and engaging displays that you can’t take your eyes off.
If you’re thinking that every item in the shop has a $50+ price tag, then think again. This lady’s finger is on the buying pulse! She knows her customers and what they’re looking for, both in price range and quality, and stocks things that are seasonal and are in accordance with the latest trends in fashion and homewares.
Ruth said she always keeps a range of price points in store and is always looking for those low-cost items that make fantastic presents or welcome additions to the home.
She said it’s important to have a good mix at all times, because people are always looking for a cheap gift that doesn’t compromise quality and originality. In keeping the range fresh Ruth said she never has the same collection of products in store and is always changing the arrangements and displays.
And while many products are established brands, like the Glasshouse candles and children’s clothing label aden + anais, Ruth said she loves to support local brands and young entrepreneurs. She said there are many more small labels coming through now than there was when she opened the store 8 years ago and loves that with them, she can keep a range of local products in stock and support the community.
With her genuine advice and devoted community spirit, Ruth has established a loyal customer base that can’t stop coming back for more. And it’s not wonder why…it’s not easy to leave the store empty handed with nothing on your wish list or future shopping list. I even have some items stored in my internal memory bank for upcoming occasions that I’ll no doubt be back to purchase.
Now to Ruth’s top picks for three milestone occasions that leave you flustered when it comes to present shopping but are simple in the hands of Ruth and Vanilla House.
Straightaway Ruth pointed out the candy coloured jewellery boxes that she sells heaps of because of their beautiful designed and are the perfect addition to any young ladies growing jewellery collection. She also said the pretty cocktail books make great 21st presents. You can also pick up something for the boys at Vanilla House with a selection of cufflinks for the sophisticated and beautiful globes for the adventurers.
Ruth said French kitchen supplies are a big hit when it comes to engagement presents, with cheese platters and knife sets reigning supreme.
For a special 50th birthday present Ruth suggested a beautiful pair of pearl drop earrings or the cute trays and boxes she has. There really is an unlimited supply of unique items for the woman you think is impossible to buy for.
