The Beer InCider Experience

posted by Carla Thurgate September 7, 2014 0 comments

Today I had the pleasure of lunching with a good friend of mine. Marty Keetels is the founder of Beer InCider Experience, a craft beer and cider festival and one of Brisbane’s most exciting events of 2014.

Brisbane is fast becoming known or its expanding list of notable events including Broadway musicals like the Lion King, The Bledisloe Cup, Brisbane International Tennis Tournament, Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival and the upcoming G20 Leaders Summit.

We can now add the Beer InCider Experience. On the 20th and 21st of September 2014, the event will bring together more than 35 independent craft breweries, 130 beers and ciders, gourmet food, live music and burlesque to Albion Park Raceway.

Over a delicious slow roasted shoulder of lamb at Two Wheels & A Handle Bar in Milton, Marty told me “Beer InCider Experience  is a new breed of festival featuring great booze, gourmet food and live music. There will also be burlesque performances and roving circus acts.” He and his team “basically created the type of event we’d love to go to”.

“All of the breweries, music acts and food trucks and caterers have been hand picked. We’re all about supporting local. All of the brewers are independent which means they’re owned by small, local businesses. ’Drink Local, Drink Better’ is our unofficial slogan. We wanted to showcase local ingenuity and fresh produce. It’s about supporting the community in which we live.”

Inspiration struck Marty over a tasting paddle of beers on a Summer’s day at Meantime Brewery in Greenwich, London. He has since decided to follow his passions – craft beer, cider and events. The former lawyer wanted to embark upon a new venture “something more tangible and organic that added value back into the community”.
