SIX Tips for First Time Home Buyers

posted by Emmy O'Neill June 2, 2017 1 Comment

We all dream of the white picket fence, weatherboard house, with a verandah that wraps around… in grey and white; close to good schools, great coffee and a backyard for the chickens? Okay they might not be your dreams… but they are someones (ahem #overhere #yesme). Owning your own house & all those future home dreams are so individual. We all like different styles of homes, different areas and we all have different needs, and especially different budgets. But regardless of what type of home you might be day-dreaming about owning, taking the plunge and deciding you want to enter the property market is a huge step. We caught up with Brad Sissons from Coronis Coorparoo and he shared his top SIX tips for first time home buyers… including one which you might not expect (and just secretly it may have been our personal favourite here at BT headquarters).

A confession of a yogi wannabe…

posted by Emmy O'Neill May 26, 2017 0 comments

Recently I had the privilege of trying the Inna Bliss Six-Week Beginner Yoga Course. Full disclosure; to say I am a beginner at yoga would be a bit of lie. But then it would also be telling the truth, because in some ways I feel like yoga is one of those things that no matter how much you do there is always more to learn.

My very first experience of yoga was watching a video cassette (not a DVD, so that might reveal my age #AnyoneElseAn80sChild) back in the early 2000’s… I then tried class after class; hopping between studios and yoga styles for the next ten years.

Spotlight On Ruby & Lilli

posted by Emmy O'Neill May 19, 2017 0 comments

This week we are shining the Spotlight On Ruby & Lilli; a Brisbane based label created by the fabulous Rachael; a self professed ‘curvy Mama with a deep love for the perfect jeans + tee + flats combo’.

Ruby & Lilli aims at producing wardrobe staples that you will feel amazing in, will never date & works across all the seasons. Think stripes and scarves #teamstripesforever. Designed by Rachael each piece of the Ruby & Lilli collection is made to flatter curves of all sizes. The signature detail of Ruby & Lilli pieces is ‘sass + sparkle’ who doesn’t love a bit of sass + sparkle in their everyday!

Brisbane Threads caught up with this lipstick loving & champagne sipping Rachel and have to say we have a bit of a crush really; both of this sassy lady & her divine label Ruby & Lilli.

May at the Movies

posted by Emmy O'Neill May 18, 2017 0 comments

Finally some rainy-put-on-your-winter-jacket weather for us Brisbane locals. Ok maybe not your winter jacket, but a light spray jacket and some ankle boots. May is also the perfect time of year to head inside and see the latest blockbuster at Dendy Portside.

This May at the movies, Dendy Portside are showing such variety; including the hilarious comedy Snatched starring Goldie Hawn & Amy Schumer; which actually had us inappropriately giggling out loud in the office. If #LOL comedies aren’t your thing; Dendy Portside have it all… horrors, war dramas, action and science fiction all showing this month. Next week sees the release of the highly anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales along with heartwarming Brit film, The Sense of Ending.

Umami

‘Umami (/uˈmɑːmi/), or savoury taste, is one of the five basic tastes (together with sweetness, sourness, bitterness, and saltiness).’ Thanks to George, Matt and Gary (aka those Masterchef boys) Umami is part of our food vocabulary, but I still found myself unable to describe Umami; instead just going with ‘it is Umami.’

Umami is not only the mysterious fifth taste; it is also the name of one of Brisbane’s tastiest restaurants located at the top of the China Town Mall, Fortitude Valley. Umami Bar & Asian Tapas isn’t the new kid on the China Town block but it has had a menu and venue makeover and it is fabulous.
