A Taste of Paniyiri

With this year’s annual Greek Festival just around the corner, we kicked off the celebrations with ‘A Taste of Paniyiri’ for a teaser of what we can expect from this years festival. Held at The Greek Club in South Brisbane, ‘A Taste of Paniyiri’ really took us to Greece with authentic food, drinks, music and dancing. It was an amazing night and made us that much more excited for the festival to officially kick!

The evening was filled with an amazing taste test including dolmades, kataifi (shredded nut pastries), spanakopitta (spinach pastry), horiatika keftedakia (village style meatballs), galaktoboureko (semolina custard between pastry), chicken skewers, loukoumades (honey puffs) and ouzo mojitos (Greek mojitos). After diving into all the sweet and savoury Greek deliciousness, we joined in with the Hellenic Dancers in traditional Greek routines. While I opted to clap along from the sidelines, the dancing really set the mood for the entire night and amped up the vibe for the festivities that are to come.

All of this food and dancing and more will be at this year’s Paniyiri Greek Festival, so dig out your best winter dancing shoes and make room for some of the best there is on offer! My best advice would be to wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing in order to fill your stomach to the brim with all things Greek. I was packed full after just a tasting, so I can only imagine how a weekend full of these festivities will leave me feeling! (I can only guess extremely full but extremely happy!).

This year the festival will be held on Saturday May 23rd and Sunday May 24th in Musgrave Park in South Brisbane. You’ll also be able to pop over to The Greek Club on Level 1 to see this year’s My Kitchen Rules contestants Annie and Lloyd in a cooking demonstration along with Home and Away and House Rules stars! There will also be a Beko Greek Coffee Competition held on both days, so for all coffee enthusiasts you know where to flock! It’s set to be a star studded, food coma, Greek dancing weekend and we couldn’t be more excited if we tried!
