With the holidays over and the university blues back in full swing, I was badly craving a getaway. It’s always nice to let your hair down and it’s even nicer when you don’t have to make a trek in order to do so. As if the getaway fairies heard my pleas, Choice Hotels Australia answered my call with an invitation to stay overnight at the Econo Lodge City Star while exploring the unsung suburb of Kangaroo Point. To celebrate the impromptu occasion, here’s our go-to guide for spending a splendid 24 hours in Kangaroo Point.

Econo Lodge: With it’s quaint exterior, Choice Hotel’s Econo Lodge City Star was filled with friendly staff, cozy rooms and some stellar views of Kangaroo Point. Upon check-in we were given the grand tour of all the Econo Lodge has to offer – from a multifunctional conference room, utilities for families and a very relaxing pool area. Econo Lodge has all the makings for the perfect city escape without the hassle of heading into the city – it’s a mere 800 metres from the iconic Kangaroo Point Cliffs and on the outskirts of the city, so it’s the best of both worlds! With breakfast in bed the next morning, it was hard not to fall in love with all the lodge had on offer. The only thing that was disappointing is that it’s winter and we couldn’t make good use of the inviting pool! I guess we’ll have to re-visit come summer time!Things To Do In Kangaroo Point, Brisbane | Brisbane Threads

Kangaroo Point Activities: The afternoon was ours to explore and that we did! Kangaroo Point is well known for it’s amazing scenery so the walk was an adventure in itself. Once on the boardwalk it’s easy to get lost in the amazing river city views. Riverlife Brisbane is located along the boardwalk and offers a huge range of activities that allow you to take in the best of Brisbane from all different levels! Our friends at Riverlife allowed for us to experience this from the craziest level of all – abseiling from the top of the cliffs! While heights aren’t my strong point, the team at Riverlife were extremely well trained and made the experience more exciting than I had anticipated. Plus with the backdrops of Brisbane City it’s hard not to feel extremely pumped up as you scale down the cliffs. If heights aren’t for you, Riverlife offers a range of other activities such as kayaking, cycling and segway riding along the river walk. Whether you explore on foot or on some mode of transport, Kangaroo Point is the perfect place to get active and experience some of the best parts of the inner city, just don’t take on the Kangaroo Point Cliffs after a big meal (or ever if exercise isn’t your thing).Things To Do In Kangaroo Point, Brisbane | Brisbane Threads

Kangaroo Point Food: Conquering a fear of heights really worked up an appetite, so we continued on our adventure in search of a bite to eat. We were in luck with Kangaroo Point’s endless selection of restaurants to choose from and eventually, an Italian feast called our names and our hearts fell for the family owned Italian hotspot, Spizzico. The atmosphere and food was extremely appealing and the staff were welcoming, so we soon discovered it was the perfect place for a family dinner or date night, whichever is more your style. We ordered the fettuccine with chicken and sautéed mushrooms in a pistachio pesto and the gnocchi ragu for mains, followed by the cheesecake of the day with gelato and berries. All hearts and tummies were left full and extremely happy by the end of the evening. Other great restaurants in the area include The Pineapple Hotel, Cafe Dockside, Deerys Restaurant and Smokehouse, The Cliffs Cafe and Lamberts.Things To Do In Kangaroo Point, Brisbane | Brisbane Threads

It’s safe to say these 24 hours were some of the most enjoyable I’ve spent exploring in our beloved city! Thank you to Choice Hotels Australia and Riverlife Brisbane for proving you don’t have to break the bank or travel far to have an adventurous and equally relaxing getaway!
