Hotel Urban Staycation

Hotel Urban, Spring Hill | Brisbane Threads

A couple of weeks ago when we were guests at Hotel Urban in Spring Hill for a weekend staycation – A whole weekend! It was pretty darn good. We couldn’t let the experience go unnoticed, and of course we had our camera in hand as we made like tourists in our own city. There’s something special about staying in a hotel, even if it is 20 minutes from home. Here are a few of our favourite things about Hotel Urban:

The Location – Spring Hill is a great location because it’s outside of the CBD so there’s minimal noise, traffic and goings on in the streets surrounding the hotel. If you want to go to the city or South Bank it’s a short cab or Uber (about $7 for an Uber to South Bank) or a walk if you’re up for a bit of fresh air and exercise.

The Breakfast Buffet – It’s no surprise that we love breakfast here at Brisbane Threads, so we were delighted when a complimentary breakfast for two was included in our stay. After a lazy sleep in we wandered down to the dining area on the ground level and made our selection from the awaiting hot pots and fruit bowls. Breakfast was nothing fancy, but it was a standard hotel brekkie done well. The hot buffet included eggs, bacon, sausages and baked beans accompanied by a selection of breads and a few pastries. The continental breakfast portion included muesli, cereal, yoghurt and yoghurt toppings and sliced fruit, all prepared to the hotels high standards.

The Pool Area – As we staycationed at Hotel Urban in Winter, we did’t get a chance to make the most of the pool and outdoor entertaining area. From what we did experience, the area is roomy, filled with colour and is relatively private considering the inner city location. At one end of the pool area is a large gazebo with couches and a table, the perfect place for your early morning coffee or to unwind at the end of the day.

The Rooftop Terrace – Open at select time periods and on certain nights, Hotel Urban has an exclusive rooftop terrace with brilliant panoramic views of the city and beyond. If you get a chance, ask reception is it’s open and have a peek. Hotel Urban | Brisbane ThreadsThe Decor – We’ve all heard about the trendy decor at NEXT Hotel and TRYP, but did you know Hotel Urban has some swag of its own? The rooms are standard hotel suites, but the communal areas and the reception are something else. In every direction there is a feature artwork, a statement piece of furniture or a strategically placed vogue magazine and fresh flowers combination. The walls of one particular stairwell are also covered with street art and graffiti.

Matching Toiletries – The complimentary shampoo, contribution, body wash and moisturiser took pride of place on the bathroom counter, sitting in their matching glory in a small paddle next to the basin. It’s hard to describe, but it was the cutest addition to the bathroom. Soap never looked so elegant!

Gazebo Bar & Restaurant – We were guests at a foodie event at Gazebo Bar & Restaurant prior to our staycation at Hotel Urban to sample the new season menu, so we can certainly guarantee the food at Hotel Urban is supreme and is made to a very high standard considering the bad reputation many hotel restaurants get. Our favourite of the tasting session was the skewer of chorizo and haloumi, followed very closely by the colourful dessert platters filled with macarons, sweets, rhubarb crumble, chocolate pieces and fresh fruit that we perched around the room. All dishes were presented well and were packed with flavour.

Crisp White Sheets – This is standard procedure for any hotel, but there’s just something about crisp white sheets that makes me relax and feel like I’m a world away from home. Hotel Urban’s are no different, transporting me to my happy place (zzz’s) with the help of some comfy pillows and a lightweight quilt. While we’re on the topic of crisp white bed sheets – don’t they make the best flatlay work station!? Hotel Urban, Spring Hill | Brisbane Threads
