Ever tried to eat your UberEats without the lights on? It can be a bit of a mission #right? Light bulbs are frankly a pretty underrated part of a home; but oh-so important and can impact its entire vibe (and cost, if you’re not up to speed with money saving globes). So it’s important to choose a globe that is both energy efficient, long lasting (and good lookin’).
The average household spends 10% of its power bill on lighting alone, but switching to energy efficient lighting is one of the easiest and fastest ways to cut down your electricity bill.
After being schooled on the importance of lighting from our pals at JD Lighting, we’ve made the switch to be more energy efficient! Here’s how you can be too:
LED light globes
One of the best tricks is converting to LED light globes. While they may be more expensive initially, they last longer and use less power than traditional globes, which will save you money in the long run! LEDs use approximately 85% less energy than halogen globes and last around 10 times longer! They come in all shapes, sizes and temperatures; cool white or warm ‘yellow’ white. It’s a good idea to check the specifications of your lighting at home first to make sure you get the right type too!
Carbon filament globes
Another great option, is Carbon filament globes. These bad boys are a tad more exciting than your standard LED lights as they are a little bit retro and a lot of fun. As they are a lot warmer and not as bright, they’re great to use in places you want low, mood lighting, or simply for decoration…
If your light globes are already up to snuff, another way to save is through dimmer switches, motion sensors and timers! These can be used for all sorts of things, say when you’re watching TV and only need a little bit of light, or keeping burglars at bay when you’re out of town…
When changing over to more energy efficient lights, be sure to dispose of your old ones correctly! Who wouldn’t want to make environmentally sustainable choices AND save money at the same time.
