Are you looking for somewhere new to explore for your weekly dinner date or sunny Sunday adventure? Oxford Street in Bulimba is where you need to be to seduce your tastebuds, shop ’til you drop and play the day away. Here’s our guide to the cosmopolitan strip and its laid-back atmosphere…

EAT:

The Deli Bulimba

The Deli Bulimba is your one stop gourmet shop when looking for a taste sensation in the heart of Bulimba, whether it’s a mid-morning brunch or an afternoon snack that you desire. Regular visitors love the selection of meats, cheeses, olives, baked goods, pastries and the espresso bar, all of which will transport you to the Mediterranean in no time. You can even purchase hampers and already-made picnic baskets full of tasty treats, or a platter for all your catering needs.

French Twist

French Twist is THE brunch spot of Bulimba, with a charming café hidden off Oxford Street that will blow your mind with the first glance at the menu.  On arrival you’ll have to choose between sweet or savory, fresh juice or iced tea, healthy or a little bit naughty, with each decision willing you back to tick another item of the French patisserie inspired menu.

La Quinta

My top pick for eating out in Bulimba is La Quinta for the superb Mexican feast that is presented no matter what you order. There is an overwhelming menu of tacos, burritos, nachos, enchiladas, dips, wings, chilli con carne and every other Mexican inspired dish possible, complete with a chilli scale of each items spicy hotness. Oh and did I mention the to-die-for drinks list of local and imported beer, wine, sangria, cocktails and non-alcoholic delights. Definitely put La Quinta on your hit list, whether you’re dining as a couple or with a big group, and make a booking ASAP.

Sugo mi Pizzeria

Sugo mi Pizzeria will satisfy your cravings for authentic Italian day and night with the restaurants pizza and pasta menu and adjoining groceria and gelato bar. In 2012 Sugo mi Pizzeria won the ‘Best informal Italian restaurant in South-east Queensland’ at the Restaurant and Catering Awards for it’s ‘contemporary, simple Italian food created with passion and innovation.’ Need I say more?

SHOP:

Thousand Island Dressing

If cute and colourful accessories and homewares are your thing, look no further than Bulimba’s Thousand Island Dressing and its colour coordinated displays of jewellery, scarves, pillows, lights and other knick knacks.

Green Grass Home and Body

You know when you try and think of a logical reason to make a purchase, purely because you love what you see? Green Grass is that shop, complete with candles, homewares, pillows, dog leads (random but so cute!), jewellery, notebooks, gift cards… everything you can think of to fulfill that desire to purchase something cute and find a home or purpose for it later.

Anne’s second hand shop

Although it looks like a scene from an episode of ‘Britain’s Biggest Hoarders,’ vintage rummagers will love this mess of trinkets, books and homewares. You never know what bargain you will find!

Carnival Parties

Carnival Parties is a boutique style party venue where you can hold kids birthday parties and events, and also purchase party items in accordance with any childhood theme imaginable, in every colour scheme. Stop in here for all your party supplies and ideas and relish in your role as the ultimate party host.

PLAY:

Picnic in the Park

Gather some treats from the Oxford Street Bakery and bask in what’ft left of the summer sun (or the breezy shade) in the park next to cosmopolitan Oxford Street.
