OTTO night to be truffled.

posted by Emmy O'Neill June 19, 2018 0 comments

Fancy a night of decadence? Of divine feasting? Of delicious food? All generously topped with truffles.

Then ‘Holy Truffle Balls’ have OTTO Ristorante got a treat for you. Prepare to be truffled. Like completely truffled.

Last week I had the privileged of dining at OTTO for a media launch of their Truffle Degustation Menu. Just the mere words ‘truffle degustation’ had me weak at the knees and that was before I had arrived at the venue. That was before the aroma of freshly shaved Western Australian Black Manjimup Truffles filled the room. That was before I tasted course after course of delicious meals generously topped with black truffle. My knees were indeed weak and my excitement to feast on in-season truffles could not be contained. What can I say? It was perfection.

Every single mouthful was truffle perfection.

As I said on the night, (whilst savouring every  bite of the truffle gelato with hazelnut praline and fresh truffle); ‘I have died and gone to truffle heaven’. And yes you read that right… there was truffle in the gelato! And it was unlike anything I had ever tasted in my life; creamy, sweet, salt, crunchy and absolute explosion of flavours and textures. The stuff of truffle dreams!

OTTO’s Head Chef Will Cowper is truly celebrating this year’s truffle season with the introduction of a truffle service; which basically means you can add freshly shaved truffles to your favourite OTTO dish. During the winter months from June through to August for $30, you can add 5 grams of freshly shaved truffled to your dish of choice; the truffles will actually be delivered to your table by Head Chef Will himself! And you also receive OTTO’s chocolate truffles to take with you; perfect for the uber ride home.

There is nothing better than the aroma of fresh truffle. At the end of every truffle season I am already  thinking of ways to use them next year. So by the time they are in season I’m so excited to showcase them through specials to our diners,” says OTTO’s Head Chef, Will Cowper.

Will has also created a number of scrumptious dishes, such as house-made fettuccini with slippery jack mushrooms, pan fried gnocchi with truffles, Parmigiano reggiano and fresh truffle risotto and the aforementioned Truffle gelato with hazelnut praline!

If you are a true truffle lover you really can’t go past the Truffle Degustation hosted at OTTO on July 4th. Prepare to have all your senses overwhelmed when you experience Western Australian Manjimup truffles in all their glorious earthy and delicious glory with an exclusive 5-course degustation with matching premium Italian wines.  For more information on how to book this event head to OTTO.

Just in case you still needed to be convinced that heading to OTTO to be truffled is a great idea… here’s some photographic evidence.

posted by Karlicca Culalic March 27, 2018 0 comments

Pay a visit to a new resident on Racecourse Road and you’ll find those four big neon words perched outside one fantastic new Italian establishment. Brisbane meet Prego Pizzeria! Hamilton’s new star pizza haven. It doesn’t matter if you know zero Italian outside the three basics (ciao, grazie and spaghetti), in Italy the word Prego is the buzzword for good news. Example. You’re in a restaurant. A rowdy Prego! means this delicious three cheese gnocchi is YOURS! In a gelateria? It means one pistachio gelato coming right up! So what does it mean in Brisbane?

HOT OFF THE PRESS:  A food truck gold mine has permanently descended on our darling Brisbane Showgrounds. From Wednesday through to Sunday, Brisbane foodies will find a mountain of street eats at the Dairy Hall and Sugar Building in our very own Bowen Hills. Repurposed to preserve the character and heritage of the building, the Welcome to Bowen Hills venue is licenced to hold a truck-full of hungry people (up to 1000) and will feature three to five continually rotating vendors to choose from daily. Just recently, it was announced that food truck royalty King of Wings has signed on for six weeks. How fab! Think names like Mr Burger, Cheeselane, Flavours of Eataly, Bruce the Foodtruck, I Heart Calamari, Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers + more.

100 GO-TO eats in Brisbane based on your #FOODMOOD

posted by Karlicca Culalic January 31, 2018 0 comments

Food mood, it’s real. You know when you say, “I’ll eat anything” but low-key, c’mon you won’t be eating just anything. Somewhere deep in your subconscious resides a small innately stubborn part of you, triggered at any mention of food and where it will be consumed. To paint the picture, I am 70% likely to be in the car when this happens. Dropping dead fuel, making suggestions with my shotgun rider, none of which are satisfactory to my secretly set criteria, and where do I end up? Paying $10 for a plate of carbs I’ve eaten three times this week. So to do us all a solid we’ve curated some of Brisbane’s best food faves to satisfy some of the most common #FOODMOODS. Best use? When you’re driving around on the verge of a first-world mental break-down. Pull over. We got you.

MADE IN AUS: 5 Aussie labels with ethics we love

posted by Karlicca Culalic January 18, 2018 0 comments

In 2018, our fashion faux pas go beyond our style choices. There is a much darker side beneath fashion’s sparkling façade, where labels mean luxury and more shoes equal more happiness (and it’s not blisters and bank accounts in anguish). It is discovering the fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world. Yikes. That’s why we LOVE uncovering labels with sustainable intentions, especially Australian ones. Here’s five that absolutely need to be on your radar…

The stuff of kitchen dreams…

posted by Emmy O'Neill December 20, 2017 0 comments

I was dreaming of a new kitchen from the day we got the keys to our new house. Like dreaming. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t being greedy… I mean, I did just buy a house! But the slightly seedy, blue, no dishwasher, leaky tap, broken oven vibes certainly didn’t have me weak at my knees. I wanted to be madly in love with my kitchen, after all it is the heart of the home!
