June at Dendy for Grownups and Littlies

posted by Emmy O'Neill June 12, 2017 0 comments
Grown up fun at Dendy Portside

You know those mornings when you wake up, vague memories of the night before, way too many drinks and the late night pizza (or maccas dash) on the way home? That ‘rough night’ we all try to forget, where we were just letting our hair down and having fun out with fiends? Yeah that night. Well… Rough Night is the new #LMAO R-rated comedy about just that… a group of girls having a weekend renion-turned rough night… which may or may not include killing a stripper (by accident of course). May at the Movies

posted by Emmy O'Neill May 18, 2017 0 comments

Finally some rainy-put-on-your-winter-jacket weather for us Brisbane locals. Ok maybe not your winter jacket, but a light spray jacket and some ankle boots. May is also the perfect time of year to head inside and see the latest blockbuster at Dendy Portside.

This May at the movies, Dendy Portside are showing such variety; including the hilarious comedy Snatched starring Goldie Hawn & Amy Schumer; which actually had us inappropriately giggling out loud in the office. If #LOL comedies aren’t your thing; Dendy Portside have it all… horrors, war dramas, action and science fiction all showing this month. Next week sees the release of the highly anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales along with heartwarming Brit film, The Sense of Ending.

Hotel Review : NEXT Hotel Brisbane

posted by Chloe Clark February 15, 2015 0 comments

When invited to spend a night at NEXT Hotel Brisbane and dine at Lennons Restaurant & Bar I jumped at the chance to sus out this new Brisbane hot spot. What I didn’t expect was the NEXT level service and style that the swish new Hotel has created.

Next Hotel Brisbane

With the motto “Designed to make your time count”, NEXT Hotel does just that and more with their re-engineered space, technology and service designed for the time-crunched modern business traveller, but also equally impressive for tourists or those on a mini-break in their own city.

Let me break down just some of the stand out things about NEXT Hotel.

Space

“Enjoy our amenities before check-in and even after check-out” are not words you hear from many Hotels. Designed to work for you, and for you to work, the spaces on offer at NEXT Hotel for guests to enjoy include the Club Lounge, The Pantry, Gym & Pool, Shower pods, and my personal favourite, Sleep Pods. All available for you to use if you are waiting to check in or have some time to kill before your flight after check out, accompanied by complimentary wi-fi, naturally.

And while we’re talking about spaces, it doesn’t get fresher than Lennons Restaurant & Bar where you can watch the chefs prepare your order on the spot whether it’s a breakfast meeting, power lunch or social dinner.

Technology

What if I told you, you could download a NEXT Hotel app to gain absolute power over your stay? Well that is exactly what you can do, and by power I mean you can control the gadgets in your room including lights, music, and air conditioning. Use it to book room service, check in, check out and wait for it… use it as your room key! Yep, just open the app, hold it up to your door, and you’re in! If you don’t have a smart phone, you can do all of the above on the Samsung Galaxy S4 waiting in your room that is yours for the stay. You can take it out with you for the day, and use it to have room service waiting for you or have the room chilled to your desired temperature.

 Service

Wi-fi and expensive mini bar items; two things that often get you with extra costs when booking a hotel room. Not a problem when staying at NEXT Hotel as wi-fi is complimentary and so are 4 mini bar items, daily!

So you might have caught on by now that everything at NEXT Hotels revolves around you and your schedule, making it the perfect place to stay for a business trip, or simply for a staycation in your own city!

RAWards : Indie Art Awards ‘Visionary’

posted by Tanya Morrissey February 3, 2015 0 comments

The dark room lit with neon lights created the perfect atmosphere for exploring. An intoxicating mix of talent on display. Creativity and soul seeping from every corner. The Met in Fortitude Valley played host to Raw presents Visionary and it definitely did not disappoint.

RAW: natural born artists is an international arts organisation. They personally select independent creative in visual art, film, fashion, music, hair & makeup artistry, photography, models and performing art.

With so many talented artists displaying their works it was a visionary feast for the eyes. Floating from one exhibition to the next was heaven. The chatter singing through the air as people debated over their favourites. There were I have to admit a few artists that demanded more of my attention and ones I will definitely be keeping track of in the future.

 Larissa Lea Art – Artist

I found myself standing in front of one particular painting for nearly 5 minutes – I may have looked crazy. I was completely transfixed by the colours and the way they merged into one another. I do not pretend to understand art but something in this particular piece reached out to me.

Lauren Shelley – Photographer

Her photographs have the power to transport you into the moment the picture was taken. They manage to capture a beautiful sense of tranquillity and peace. I left determined to get back into surfing just to experience for a minute the feelings her pictures evoked.

Juxtafied- Artist

These pictures being airbrushed seem to capture a different side of the icons she painted – she made them seem softer and more relatable almost. I was most drawn to the black and white images – which coincidently where the artists favourite too.

Cocktail in hand overlooking the venue from the balcony was the perfect way to end the night. I was not aware of all the hidden talent in Brisbane and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing it thanks to RAW.

The Cycles of Summer – Event

invitation cos

Vintage-loving ladies you are invited to join our journey for the First Cycle of Summer.

Together we will cycle between the trees, around the river and by the cityscapes.

When: Sunday 1st of February

Location: New Farm Park

Time: Meet at 3pm for picnic. Cycle commences at 4pm!

vintage bike cos A little about us:

A boy and girl met and fell in like, in the city of Brisbane. The girl loved and appreciated all things vintage and longed to experience the world by bicycle. The boy surprised the girl by lovingly restoring a retro cruiser for her. The boy named the bicycle Juliette. The girl and Juliette take scenic routes around their beautiful city.

Our website The Cycles of Summer was created to share the discoveries and insights you can experience when riding a bicycle. It was also created with the hope of developing a small community of Vintage Betties who ride bicycle. Together we will meet, cycle and picnic together in our beautiful city.

Life is a picnic…

Pack your basket full of your favourite treats and be ready to enjoy this special experience. Our picnic will provide the opportunity to get to know each other.

Our Threads

Wearing a sweet vintage dress on a sunny day with a breeze is delightful. In that moment everything in life feels wonderful!

But when planning your outfit for a ride there are some things be mindful of – the length or your dress, the suitability of your under garments and shoes, and how comfortable you’ll be. A 1950’s summer dress usually has all the elements for stylish and comfortable riding. High wasted shorts with lacy tops or jumpsuits are also great options. As always, helmets are a must.

The Cycles of Summer: A blog for Vintage Betties, sun seekers and their bicycles

The Cycles of Summer is a blog for people who want to meet up with over pedal pushers for relaxing rides. We’re not interested in speed or lycra – we like to take our time, have a chat and enjoy the scenery. Our hope is that we will soon have a small community of ladies that regularly invite each other to cycle to markets, ride along coastlines, plan trips to GoMA, plan routes incorporating vintage shops and cafes, picnic together in parks, go on sunset cruises and cycles under the stars.

This blog is a great platform to connect with other Vintage Betties and share your thoughts on vintage culture, threads and bicycles.

bikes

We look forward to meeting and cycling with you on Sunday 1st of February. It will be the start of a wonderful journey.

If you live in Brisbane, have a retro styled bike and enjoy wearing vintage dress, then join our journey. It will be one full of sunshine!

Active Threads to Inspire

posted by Teagan West January 16, 2015 1 Comment

It’s mid-January (gasp!), so it’s time to evaluate your New Year resolutions and see if you’re on track…

I bet there’s a whole army of you promising to focus on your health, fitness and general wellbeing – whether it be eating a more balanced diet, using that gym membership, meditating for internal wellbeing, exercising daily or having more ‘me’ time. We all know how hard it is come January to start bringing those goals to fruition on the 1st, and it’s even harder 2 weeks in.

So how are you going, so far? Are you giving it your all and reaping the benefits, or are you struggling to get motivated and up-and-at-‘em? Whatever the case, a little bit of motivation (in the form of retail therapy of course) cannot go astray.

I know I’m very guilty of finding motivation to exercise in the form of buying new active gear. It’s a way of starting fresh and being inspired by active threads that support you and get you in the mood for a good sweat. From my own experience, it works a treat (plus it’s a justified shopping trip!). Here’s some of the best activewear in Oz that’ll inspire you to reach your health and fitness goals in 2015. Sweat it out in style babes.
