#WhatsOn: Five things happening in Brisbane

posted by Karlicca Culalic November 16, 2017 0 comments

INCOMING – our busiest month of the calendar is fast approaching! Here are five events you’ll absolutely want to ink into your schedules this week…

#1. A new botanical bar *slash* tropical garden oasis opens up in West End

Brisbane meet Covent Bar, opening TODAY in your West End backyard. It’s a nod to London’s iconic Covent Garden – super-lux, super-vibrant and super lush! Think of this space as a perfect afternoon treat yourself to play catch-up’s with your nearest and dearest and try a selection of Covent’s 100 craft gins. There will be contemporary share-plates as well as Pimms and Aperol Spritz flowing. If you’re feeling adventurous, Covent also has a seasonal house speciality appropriately named The Garden of Eden. It’s a clever mix of Tanqueray gin, absinthe rinse, fresh pressed apple juice, medicinal syrup, charred lime and white pepper tincture. YUM. A haven away from the hustle and bustle of the neighbouring city and BT is all about it!

When: Thursday, 16 November
Where: 142 Boundary St, West End Continue Reading

‘Embrace your inner German’

posted by Emmy O'Neill September 28, 2017 0 comments

Any tagline that reads ’embrace your inner German’ is always going to get me across the line. Growing up I used to hide my love of sauerkraut, spätzle, leberwurst, semmelknödel (we called bread balls) and pretzels… They were not the kind of foods that the other kids found ‘cool’ or ‘exotic’… And whist sauerkraut is on trend as a 2017 super gut food; I can honestly say I have been eating that fermented cabbage stuff for 32 years!

The Hamlet Apocalypse

posted by Emmy O'Neill August 16, 2017 0 comments

You can’t hide from live theatre. You can’t pause the show, or look on your phone, or be distracted by life. Theatre is in your face. It is live; breathing and alive.

Some pieces of theatre stick like glue to your memory. They get under your skin and almost crawl around; unable to get out, permanently living inside all of your cells. The Hamlet Apocalypse by The Danger Ensemble has well and truly got inside my head, under my skin and inside every single one of my cells! I’ve literally not been able to stop thinking about the performance since Friday night! Continue Reading

Spotlight On: Alice Foulcher

posted by Emmy O'Neill August 14, 2017 0 comments

This morning I’m having a virtual hangout with Melbourne based actor/writer Alice Foulcher. We are talking all things, great Australian Films; (that’s right Alice & her hubby Gregory made a great Australian film), tight-ass movie budgets, making people laugh, fashion, keeping it real and of course coffee.

Alice stars in and co-wrote ‘That’s Not Me’ Film with her husband/director Gregory Erdstein. ‘That’s Not Me’ was created whilst doing an artists residency in Paris, France… sounds pretty schamncy fancy #right! Well these down-to-earth Aussies are here to show the world that a) Australians can make GREAT comedies and B) you don’t need a shit tonne of money to do it.

That’s Not Me is a tale of shattered dreams and charts the heartbreak and hope that comes from following your childhood dreams. Featuring ever so-lovely Alice Foulcher in the roles of Polly and Amy, with support from Isabel Lucas (TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN), and Richard Davies (OFFSPRING).
