Last week, I had the absolute pleasure of joining Chef James Guldberg and Erinn Jordan for an extraordinary lunch at their East Brisbane restaurant, The Catbird Seat Bistro.
The Catbird Seat Bistro is located on Stanley Street with plenty of side-street parking, if you’re not lucky enough to get one right out the front. Upon entrance I was struck by the French-inspired decor, with wooden bentwood chairs & Art Deco lights, creating a polished, yet intimate experience. General Manager Erin is equally as polished and warm, inviting us to sit and took the time to chat and understand our appetite and wine preferences so she could suggest the perfect meal. Erinn has recently completed her Sommeliers accreditation and put it straight to use suggesting a perfectly balanced McClaren Vale Grenache. We left the lunch order in the hands of Chef James Guldberg and found the menu as equally comforting and classic as it was challenging!
The standouts were the confit pork snout (yes, you read that correctly!) with burnt apple, daikon and floral jus – a real nose-to-tail treat! The Fremantle octopus with smoked fennel, dried tomato, lemon myrtle – literally the softest, melt-in-your-mouth octopus I’ve eaten! Barossa Valley baked Camembert served with crunchy walnuts, truffle honey and sourdough – the only way you should eat camembert. And of course we couldn’t go past dessert, lots of chocolate – a plate of chocolate full of textures, that we literally couldn’t stop eating.
Erinn and James believe in high-quality, fresh produce and using every part of the ingredient, so the menu changes often and features creative and unique dishes, a respectful & environmentally sustainable way to use produce. And for you, it means you can come for your favourites or experience something new each time. They also make their own charcuterie meats in house, so you are experiencing something truly one of a kind.
What I love about The Catbird Seat bistro is it’s luxury you can afford.
Indulge any day of the week (Tues-Fri) with their Prix-fixe lunch menu- 2 courses for $35 or 3 courses for $45. The perfect place for a sneaky mid-week date or for a client-you-want-to-impress meeting.
Or for dinner, BYO wine Tuesday and Wednesday, Share meal (which changes all the time) for $60, of the amazing Truffle dinner – 4 courses for $90.
