Is there anything greater than sitting with your best friend, (or you mama, grandma, godmother or anyone special) and sipping on champagne and eating scones? We think not! Scones, champagne and cakes are a perfect way to spend a few hours on the weekend.
A few weeks ago we had the privilege of eating and drinking the afternoon away at the Brisbane Marriott High Tea. Oh-so-fancy and oh-so-fabuous! Whether you are celebrating a special occasion, wedding, baby shower, birthday or just after a lovely way to thank you friend, the Brisbane Marriott’s High Tea is the perfect opportunity to feel oh-so-speical. I took my bestie along and we commenced the afternoon sipping on bubbles!
Brisbane Marriott High Tea
We started the afternoon munching on the softest sandwiches. Including smoked salmon, cucumber and caper mayonnaise, vintage cheddar and english mustard with smoked turkey, vine ripened tomatoes and Hill farm relish and the classic free range egg and lettuce. The sandwiches were generous in size and we loved the creative square take on the traditional high tea sanga.
After the sandwiches we then went straight to the fluffy, freshly baked scones. Let’s be honest we topped said scones with a generous, ahem gigantic serving of jam and cream. Or cream and jam. Depending on where you are from in the world. The cream also had shavings on white chocolate on top! The Brisbane Marriott also use the world’s best Bonne Maman jam served in the sweetest tiny jam jars.
Finally dessert. Now this is the time to loosen your outfit so you can squeeze in ‘petit desserts’ which included a chocolate brownie, strawberry fruit tart and the cutest lil choux pastry swan you ever did see!
The debate on English Breakfast Tea vs Earl Grey continued between my girlfriend and I (myself believing that Earl Grey tea is the stuff of superiority and my girlfriend believing it tastes like dishwater). In the end I settled for a pot of Earl Grey whilst she sipped on a decant hot chocolate!
The Brisbane Marriott High Tea is on every Saturday & Sunday. The traditional afternoon tea is $49 (includes a glass of Australian Sparkling Wine) or a Champagne afternoon tea is $59 (includes a glass of French Champagne). There two sessions 12:00pm – 1:45pm or 2:00pm – 3:45pm. Don’t forget to book for the High Tea.
