Brisbane’s Best Breakfast Salads

As a nutritionist and health blogger over at The Gourmet Gypsy, I love nothing more than to see vegetables made delicious for breakfast. However for most people, being served a bowl of veggies first thing in the morning is just about as boring as watching cricket on Boxing Day (can you tell I’m not a cricket fan?). Breakfast salad bowls are starting to trend in health-conscious cafes across Brisbane, and thanks to the talented chefs, the greens are clean and the taste will leave you wanting more. With poached eggs being the icing on top, you can count on being full for the rest of the morning when you check out the best Brisbane breakfast salads around town.

Instead of waiting ’til Monday to start “being good and eating healthy,” why not make the most of the time you have on the weekend and swap the eggs bene and chocolate drizzled pancakes for one of Brisbane’s breakfast salads. Here’s where to get your fix: Brisbane's Best Breakfast Salads | Brisbane ThreadsCorner Store Café (Toowong):  This west-side favourite always has something new and innovative on its menu which is based around healthy food made delicious.  Try the Raw cauliflower, kale & quinoa salad – a mega salad served with poached eggs and a turmeric and yoghurt dressing.  This would be perfect if you and a friend were looking to share a meal, or in most cases, if you’ve really worked up an appetite.  Thanks to the eggs and quinoa, it’s a protein packed breakfast that will leave you feeling as full as a post-Christmas feast but without the calories (a win, win situation).

Paw Paw Café (Woolloongabba): The menu at Paw Paw is just as dreamy as the interior of this relaxing yet modern café.  The seasonal menu always has something new and refreshing to try with flavours that are a marriage made in heaven, yet not always classically seen.  Try out the Superfood Greens breakfast which has all the right lean greens to leave you feeling paw-some and nourished.

Little Loco Café (New Farm):  Known for its incredible food-spiration meals, you’ll be left going loco over its wholesome vegetables first thing in the morning.  Here you can get yourself a bowl of nourishing greens topped with avocado, pomegranate, poached eggs and dukkah – sounds dukkahlicious right? With a coffee on the side you’ll be ready to face anything that comes your way.

Pineapple Express (Portside & Fortitude Valley): With superfood café closely following its name, you can count on picking up a super green bowl full of super goodness.  The Green Breakfast Bowl is all you need to get an array of “superfoods” all in one hit.  With its more recent store opening on James Street all you have to do is order online and pick up – no time wasted so you can get back to your busy schedule while still eating the right foods to fuel your concentration and brain power.

Miss Bliss Whole Foods Kitchen (West End): The name says it all – you’ll be left in utter bliss when you’re done with the nourishing breakfast options available at Miss Bliss.  Whether the Savoury Bliss Bowl tickles your fancy, or you decide to do something outrageous and part from the bowl for the Wellness Board, you can count your carrots that you’ll be getting all the wholesome-ness and delicious-ness you need in a meal.  With both options topped with soft n’ gooey eggs, you’ll be left wondering why you didn’t come here earlier.

Hallowed Grounds (Mt Gravatt):  A little out from the hustle and bustle of the city, Hallowed Grounds is your local go-to for south-siders wanting something a little healthier without having to make the hike into the city central burbs.  After a light hike up the Mt Gravatt Lookout, you can re-fuel at the bottom with a breakfast that your body will thank you for – the Breaky Bowl. Haloumi, avocado, tomatoes, fetta, spinach and eggs – need I say more?  A match made in heaven and now thankfully you don’t have to wait till lunch to have it. Although… it’s an all-day breakfast menu so the choice is yours.
